DENNÍK N
Interview with Karol Sudor for Denník N
A shorter version of the interview for Denník N was also published in NOTA BENE – a magazine that helps homeless people make a living by selling quality periodicals that are actually worth reading. The theme of the issue was memory, and so we devoted the interview to talking about how human memory works. I also talked about why I recommend mental silence for attention span overload. The interview was excellently led by the experienced journalist Karol Sudor, who has won several journalism awards for best interview.

INVITRO
Interview with Anna Martausová for inVitro
In the interview for inVitro we talked not only about my research, but also about my life as a scientist in Slovakia and Austria. I have tried both and I see some differences in the perception of science here and abroad. Anna Martausová and I discussed the process of researching sleeping worms, publishing in Science, and my thoughts on necessary changes in the Slovak health and education system. I think this interview was also great in terms of editing, and I believe it can start a discussion about the future of science and healthcare education in Slovakia.

EVITA MAGAZINE
Interview with Michaela Saleh for Evita magazine
As a scientist, I’m fascinated by sleep. I find it challenging that the questions of why we sleep and how we wake up are still not fully answered. But the facts we have been able to gather so far can help us sleep better. Sleep planning improves your waking life greatly. Michaela Saleh has drawn information from our interview and prepared an engaging lifestyle article on how to get a good night's sleep and how to organize a healthy lifestyle.

Neurogeneticist: Sometimes it's good to not think, too many stimuli harm brain cells
"We still don't know the main reasons why we sleep," says scientist Tomáš Eichler. "Sleep as a form of adaptive inactivity is similarly beneficial and natural as a quiet mind, or a state of meditation," says Eichler.
Slovak published in Science, studied the processes of falling asleep and waking up
According to the results of research on worms, sleep represents a basic state of neurons to which they naturally return. “The findings have the potential to help with the correction of sleep disorders,” says scientist Tomáš Eichler.
Learning in your sleep is a myth
When we sleep, the brain uses only a small fraction of neurons to assess whether we are in danger or not. The rest of the stimuli are actively suppressed by the brain, sleep expert says.
Sleep expert: Classes starting later than 8am would be better for teenagers
Even a short 20 to 30 minute nap will increase learning ability by 30 percent for several hours, says neurogeneticist and sleep expert Tomáš Eichler. Sleep deprivation not only harms intellectual productivity, but can also cause depression, increase hunger and make you overweight, accelerate aging, increase the risk of diabetes, cause heart rhythm irregularities, impair libido, weaken immunity, increase the risk of certain cancers (because of stressed immunity), and disrupt hormonal regulation.
Story of a high school boy who didn't sleep for 11 days. He set a record, but he was hallucinating and paranoid
Lack of sleep impairs attention, memory, mood, the ability to think logically as well as manual dexterity and nimbleness. Deliberately delaying sleep is not a good idea, a scientist warns. "It's a silly flex unworthy of the pursuit of world records," he added.

Neurogeneticist Eichler studying sleeping worms: Someday we should be able to wake people from comas
Sleep is a natural and essential need for humans and animals. It helps learning, memory and the restoration of spent neurotransmitters. However, science is not satisfied with these incomplete assumptions and aims to understand and explain them in simple terms.
Slovak neurogeneticist: Worm brain helps us unravel the mysteries of human sleep
The process of waking up and falling asleep is one of the most dramatic changes the brain experiences. The Slovak Tomáš Eichler and his colleagues have been researching the process of going from dream state to everyday reality. They studied how the brain wakes up, stays awake, falls asleep and sleeps. They were the first to observe all the neurons of the C. elegans worm at the same time, something that no one had ever done before.
